Ronetto van Tilburg has won the first UTR Pro Tennis Tour tournament of April in Arnhem. The 26-year-old Dutchman from Zeeland, ranked No. 6 in the Netherlands, defeated Northern Irish player Cian McDonnell in a thrilling final after more than three and a half hours of tennis: 6-7 (9), 7-6 (1), 6-3.
In the women’s event, the title went to Britain’s Amelia Rajecki. She defeated Anastasiia Firman from Ukraine in the final, 6-2, 7-6 (5).
The tournament at Sportpark Molenbeke was the first of two consecutive UTR Pro Tennis Tour weeks in Arnhem. The international tournament series gives players valuable match play at professional level. Each tournament week in Arnhem offers 40,000 US dollars in prize money.
There was also a notable result for local tennis in Arnhem. Nineteen-year-old Rein Koenders finished sixth in the final standings. With that result, the Arnhem player took another clear step forward in his development.
“Rein has made a big step in a short period of time,” says tournament director Remco Schreurs. “In January, he finished 17th here; now he has played his way to sixth place. That shows how quickly he is developing and how this format, with many matches at international level, can really help players move forward.”
On Monday, 20 April, the second UTR Pro Tennis Tour tournament of the month begins at Sportpark Molenbeke. Rein Koenders and finalist Cian McDonnell will both be back in action.
Matches are played daily from 09:00 until around 16:00. Admission for spectators is free. Matches are also broadcast live on Amazon Prime Video.
